Education
Up one levelBurma’s education system is today near collapse. Only about one-third of about one million children who each year begin school will complete even four years of education. Access to education is most restricted in impoverished rural areas where families cannot afford official and unofficial fees. Nearly all Burma's universities and colleges have been shuttered for extended periods since students helped lead the 1988 democracy movement. This section of the BurmaGuide.Net includes resource summaries on groups that promote better education in Burma or for Burmese who have left their country, as well information from other groups working on education in developing countries.
