This is the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) homepage. JICA addresses a broad range of global issues, such as Governance, Education, Natural Resources and Energy, Peacebuilding, health, economic policy, gender and development, water resources/disaster management, private sector development, poverty reduction, social security, agricultural and rural development, nature conservation, ICT, fisheries, urban/regional development. As for JICA’s work in Myanmar—although the implementation of new projects has been suspended under Japan's basic policy on economic cooperation with Myanmar, in consideration of the country's very poor living conditions JICA does, following a careful examination of the issues, implement certain projects that are highly urgent and truly humanitarian in nature, that involve human resources development contributing to democratization and economic structural reform, or that target the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) as a whole or such other countries as Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Viet Nam. JICA's assistance focuses on the areas of (1) assistance for democratization, (2) assistance for economic structural reform, (3) humanitarian assistance, (4) addressing the problems of minority ethnic groups and refugees, and (5) combating drugs.
