Health Unlimited has been working with the independence movements in Kachin since 1986 and Wa since 2001. In both states, it is focusing on building and strengthening basic healthcare by training local health managers and community health workers, and educating communities about infectious diseases. Both areas are particularly susceptible to malaria and TB, and HIV/AIDS is an ever-growing threat. Initially, the project in Kachin focused on establishing a network of health posts staffed by trained health workers and training local vaccination teams. Its initiative now incorporates the training of midwives and traditional birth attendants, malaria control and community health education.
