The Center for Integrative and Development Studies of the University of the Philippines (CIDS) was created in 1985 as a university-wide research unit. It has since evolved into the University System's institution for integrative and collaborative research. It is mandated to mobilize multidisciplinary expertise for research on critical areas of national policy; organize and participate in national and international networks of scholars, experts and advocates that address issues of national and regional significance; provide a venue for discussion and debate on burning social, political and economic issues, theoretical perspectives, methodological positions and policy choices; feed back to academic work new perspectives and methodologies developed in the course of basic and policy-oriented research; and publish books, journals, monographs, papers and newsletters.
